New Moon April 26th 2017 in Taurus

April’s New Moon in Taurus occurs at 8:16 AM EST on Wednesday the 26th, and you can do your New Moon ritual on either the night of Tuesday the 25th or the 26th at any time. Honestly, I’m just happy this isn’t one of those difficult-to-time Moons, and that I can just settle in on the night of the 26th and get things done. However, if you procrastinate until Thursday the 27th be sure to get it done before 9:18 PM EST because the Moon moves from Taurus to void-of-course to Gemini all in the space of about 20 minutes, that busy Moon.

The two week manifestation point for this New Moon is the Full Moon on May 10th 2017 in Scorpio. The six month manifestation point for this New Moon is the Full Moon in Taurus on November 4th 2017.

New Moon December 29th 2016 in Capricorn

Stellarscapes by Oriol Angrill Jorda

December 2016’s New Moon in Capricorn occurs at 1:53 AM EST on Thursday the 29th, and you can do your New Moon ritual in Capricorn on either the night of the 28th or the 29th. However, if you want until the 30th the Moon will be void-of-course until 8:29 PM when it enters Aquarius.

The two week manifestation point for this New Moon is January 12th Full Moon in Cancer. The six month manifestation point is on July 9th with the Full Moon in Capricorn.

My guide, Witch’s Guide to New Moon Magick, can be found on the site here; this post is a companion to that guide. If you’re new to Moon magick that’s a great place to begin.

New Moon in Capricorn

This is the last New Moon of 2016, so it’s a great opportunity to write your New Year’s Resolution list. You can also wait until January’s New Moon (which is the Lunar New Year) or the ‘traditional’ date of December 31st. If I’m planning on champagne and watching the ball drop, I’m not going to be fixated on goals, so I usually put them on separate dates. Since New Moon’s also have an aspect of ‘letting go’ to them, this would also be a good time to list what you really want to leave in 2016. Looking back on my older Esbats from 2016 I must say, it’s taken time, but it has been working. I also have my 2016 goal list to review. That will be fun – and terrifying! – I have no idea what’s on it.

New Moon November 29th 2016 in Sagittarius

Stellarscapes by Oriol Angrill Jorda

November’s New Moon in Sagittarius occurs at 7:18 AM EST on Tuesday the 29th, and you have plenty of time to observe the New Moon in that sign, unlike October’s New Moon, which required a little planning. The Moon enters Sagittarius at 3:46 PM on Monday the 28th, and stays there until 11:08 PM on Wednesday the 30th, when it goes void of course. In simple terms, you have the nights of the 28th, 29th, and the early evening of the 30th to perform your New Moon ritual. Our busy schedules thank you.

Sagittarius is my rising sign and I definitely have some strong Sag traits (teacher, anyone?) so this is great energy to harness. I’m especially excited about this lunar cycle because December 1st is the last day of classes for the semester, which marks my first complete semester teaching college. It also marks the beginning of a month long chunk of time I plan on devoting to writing. I have big plans!

New Moon October 30th 2016 in Scorpio

Stellarscapes by Oriol Angrill Jorda

I’ve been wanting to add some moon magick posts to the site for a while, but, like a true Scorpio, the first post is all about me. Well, more accurately it’s all about October’s New Moon in Scorpio, which happens to be in my sign. Nothing motivates a Scorpio like themselves though, eh?

Note: The New Moon technically enters occurs at 1:38 PM on Sunday the 30th, for those of you who decide to observe the New Moon on Saturday the 29th, the moon moves into Scorpio at 10:01 PM EST. Earlier in the evening it is considered void-of-course, which starts at 6:09 AM EST (before that it’s in Libra). Just a timing-related FYI.

What is New Moon Magick?

New moons are used for setting intentions with a manifestation point at the next full moon (in about two weeks, November 14th for this new moon) and, way more importantly, a second, larger manifestation at the full moon at the six month mark (for this new moon it will happen on May 10th 2017). I always feel that it’s a good idea to dream big on the new moons, to set intentions and put into action things that really matter, and that I truly feel are beneficial to me as a person. It’s a private ritual, so it gets real, but that’s because I’m really willing to push myself to be better all the time (in a healthy, positive, loving way, of course). Also, because the guidance goes so far out, I believe it’s important to do a little divination as well. While some people are drawn to pendulums, scrying, or runes, I always go for tarot, but you can use any form of divination that you feel comfortable with.

Intention Setting

The process of intention setting varies for everyone, so adjust what you find here to suit your needs and comfort zones. An important thing about magick is that you should only do what you feel comfortable doing. I start by figuring out, within the context of the current astrological sign, what it is that I really want to work on about myself, and what corresponding thing I’d like to let go of (or stop doing), so that’s step one.

Scorpio is a very willful sign, so focus your intention setting on what you literally want; it can be finding out what that is, or having the steps toward getting it revealed. Scorpio is also a very outspoken sign (when I’m fired up you will not believe the barbed sass that comes forth) so when you’re speaking your truth during this lunar cycle – and you should do just that – be sure to avoid sarcasm or just being pointlessly mean (oh, I know it’s tempting, but you need to fight that temptation!). Further, Scorpio is an intuitive and observational sign that is able to judge other’s intentions and character well, and this is excellent energy to harness to your advantage. We all know Scorpio has the reputation of being the most, ahem, passionate sign, but jealousy is often the result of that intense ability to feel desire. Moderating what you ask for during this cycle is important because Scorpio is so intense.
