Early January 2018 Magickal Link Roundup

January 2018 Links for Witches and Pagans

It’s time for another magickal link roundup wherein I have compiled this fortnight’s best resources from around the witchy web. I hope that 2018 is off to a good start for you all! I’m back to work and the grading grind (I’m a community college adjunct professor), which is kind of stale even when it’s fresh. Even though I love writing materials (hence this website) and staying organized, I’m ho hum on grading, since I essentially give the same feedback all the time. Of course, no one loves 100% of any job, so c’est la vie. I definitely miss writing for this website all December long and doing nothing else!

Below you will find the my favorite links from around the magickal interweb from the first half of January 2018. If you have a favorite witchy post/blog/product to share, please feel free to post it in the comments.

~ Early January 2018 Magickal Link Roundup ~

Astrology & Numerology

2018 Numerology: Balancing the “Me” and “We” in the 11/2 Universal Year on Astrostyle – 2018 is a Year 2 in numerology, a year of patience and planting seeds. This article goes into the details of what to expect in 2018, which is both a Year 2 and an 11 Master number year (and they go into what that means). As a numerology nerd from way back I always love to read about what the numbers have in store for us.

January Numerology: A New Personal Year Number for 2018 on Astro Style – I read this post about personal year numbers (any other 6’s out there?) and was like, “Hmm, interesting,” then an hour later it was clear that this was going to be completely accurate. Definitely check it out, maybe print yours and add it to your Book of Shadows, and plan on reflecting on it at the end of the month.

Books & Publications

Sigil Witchery: A Witch’s Guide to Crafting Magick Symbols by Laura Tempest Zakroff – Released on January 8th 2018 this book is all about sigil magick, a topic that I’m interested in learning more about. I won’t be buying it until I’ve seen in it person though; I know it’s weird, but I don’t like irregularly sized books, and this one is square. For me to buy a square book that’s going to drive me crazy, it would have to be really good. Hopefully, I will see it in person soon so that I can flip through it.

Tarot & Divination

Golden Lenormand Oracle by Lo Scarabeo – I think that Scarabeo might just be the biggest name is modern cartomancy. Without trying, I have three decks from this artist, and I only own about a dozen decks total. This Golden Lenormand looks very old school and is a “classic 19th century” (1800s) deck. I have really come to appreciate Lenormand in the last year, so I am considering adding this deck to my collection.

Tarocchino Mitelli Deck by Giuseppe Maria Mitelli – Released in January 2018 this deck is “part of Lo Scarabeo’s Anima Antiqua series (Ancient Soul), this deck has been loving recreated on high quality stock” and is “a limited edition and numbered deck.” I guess this means that Llewellyn is getting into bespoke tarot decks! Honestly though, this deck is a knockout if you like this sort of ‘old world’ art style. My only complaint is that there are ‘stains’ printed on the deck, I know that gives it a worn feel, but to me that’s like buying pre-ripped jeans.

Tarot Meaning Cheat Sheets on Labyrinthos Academy – Lovely and helpful quick reference sheets for tarot majors and each suit. A good addition to a Grimoire or Book of Shadows.

Moon Magick

Capricorn New Moon Ritual January 2018 on Forever Conscious – This ritual is for grounding and manifesting during this Capricorn New Moon cycle.

Intuitive Astrology: January New Moon 2018 on Forever Conscious – Information on the January New Moon in Capricorn. January 2018 finds many planets in that same sign, this post goes into what that means for intentions; it’s a time of positive shifts and action.

Witchcraft & Paganism

New Year’s Day Crystal Magic by Anna on Llewellyn Unbound – A brief list of nine clear crystals and their properties that can be used for starting the New Year or a new project. There’s also a very short, helpful spell at the bottom; good to add to your Book of Shadows or Grimoire.

The Theme for January 2018 is Evaluation/Action on Mystic Mama – I feel that this post is particularly accurate. 2018 is going to be an interesting year, and I’m already feeling the rumblings of change. This post seems to speak directly to that, and is definitely worth a read.

I hope you find these links helpful for you magickal doings. I very much enjoyed compiling them, and hope you find these resources useful, too. I will be back at the end of January for another link roundup.

Blessed be, friends!

  1. Just a little note about “Sigil Witchery” – the reason why it’s square is so that it lays open better for drawing reference/practice (within the confines of that time of binding). The book is designed to be an active reference guide and hands-on manual, and the typical shape (rectangular, longer on the spine) doesn’t allow for that. 🙂

    • Thank you for your comment! That makes quite a bit of sense. Spiral binding would help it lay completely flat, but that would look ‘cheap’ and if anything crossed the page it wouldn’t work. I assume you have the book; do you like it?
