The October 2017 New Moon in Libra occurs at 3:12 PM EST on Thursday, October 19th, which is when the Moon also goes void-of-course (thanks, Moon). The Moon then enters Scorpio at 9:41 PM that same day. The good news is that the Moon is in Libra all day Wednesday October 18th, and it enters Libra at 1:35 PM on Tuesday October 17th. This information is also detailed in my Cosmic Concerns: October 2017 post if you’d like to see this information as a list.
That means you can do your New Moon ritual after 1:35 PM on the 17th, any time on the 18th, or before 3:12 PM on the 19th. For charging, you can leave items out on the night or either the 17th or the 18th, but if you wait until the night of the 19th they will be charged with Scorpio energy, rather than Libra energy.
The two week manifestation point for this New Moon is on Saturday, November 4th with the New Moon in Taurus. The six month manifestation point is on Sunday, March 31st 2018 with the Full Moon in Libra. The March 2018 Full Moon in Libra will actually be a Blue Moon, which is the name for the second Full Moon in a calendar month.
My guide, Witch’s Guide to New Moon Magick, can be found on the site here; this post is a companion to that guide. If you’re new to Moon magick that’s a great place to begin.
New Moon in Libra
Libra is the sign of balance, appropriately symbolized by the scales. It is a Cardinal, Air sign, ruled by the planet Venus. Libras focus their energy on others and work well when paired up. They are objective and fair, but, on the downside, they avoid conflict. There’s such a thing as paying too high a cost for peace and harmony, so beware that negative aspect of the sign. Libras are good at communicating; however, Libras can turn from chatty to gossiping quickly. Balance is what this sign is all about, and, while they believe in fairness and justice, they need to be balanced out just as much as everyone else. As a Cardinal Sign, Libra can get things moving, which I always see as a good thing.
Because of these Libra traits, consider focusing your intentions for the next six month cycle on completing something with the help of another person. This Libra cycle ends with a Blue Moon; think of the saying “once in a blue moon,” and embrace this as a rare opportunity! Remember that this cycle ends in March 2018, so think ahead to what you would like to accomplish by early next year. Libra’s ruling planet, Venus, will be in Libra starting on October 14th as well, so there’s a lot of Libra energy to go around.
Suggested Tarot Spread: 3 Cards
Since Libra is the sign associated with balance, I feel like a balance-oriented tarot spread is in order. For this tarot spread, Card #1 should be set in the middle, Card #2 should be placed to the left of #1, and Card #3 should be placed to the right of #1. You can change the timing of the question based on what you’d like advice on. For example, you could change it from six months to two weeks, the Samhain season, or any event for which you’d like advice.
Card #1 (middle): What will it benefit me to focus on during this six month Libra season?
Card #2 (left): What will hold me back during this time period?
Card #3 (right): What will push me forward during this time period?
With your intentions set and advice in mind, now you can go into the New Moon cycle and put your intentions to work with actions! The Full Moon in November is a good time to check in and review your notes, then in March 2018 we’ll meet again to see how we’ve done.
I hope you all found this guide helpful, I’ll be back at the next Moon and we can go through the steps together again. Please feel to share any (positive/constructive) thoughts that you have in the comments. Have a beautiful lunar cycle my friends, and blessed be!
