May’s New Moon in Gemini occurs at 3:44 PM EST on Thursday the 25th, and you can do your New Moon ritual on either the night of Thursday the 25th or Friday the 26th at any time. I’m very happy that this New Moon has more time in which to observe it than some of the previous ones this year. The only hiccup is if you try to observe the New Moon early on Wednesday the 24th, the Moon will be void-of-course from 3:08 PM until 8:15 AM on Thursday the 25th when it enters Gemini.
The two week manifestation point for this New Moon is June 9th with the Full Moon in Sagittarius. Its six month Full Moon will happen on December 3rd 2017 with the Full Moon in Gemini.
My guide, Witch’s Guide to New Moon Magick, can be found on the site here; this post is a companion to that guide. If you’re new to Moon magick that’s a great place to begin.
New Moon in Gemini
Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac, a mutable sign, an Air sign, and ruled by the planet Mercury. Gemini is a very chatty sign, an outgoing, intellectual, and curious sign. Gemini is associated with the Twins, or Yin/Yang, and Gemini does embody those dual aspects. For all their interest in intellectual pursuits, they can also be total flakes; they’re a ton of fun to date, but they can move on quickly; Geminis are very curious, but easily distracted; they rarely get bored, but when they do, they find it intolerable. Because Gemini is a mutable sign, they are able to go with the flow, and, at their best, be a truly curious intellectual. They are playful, fun, and excellent communicators. Not surprising because this sign is ruled by Mercury.
Because of these Gemini traits, consider focusing your intentions for the next six month cycle on things like communication, letting go/release, or trying something new, either intellectually or having an adventure. Remember that this cycle ends in December, so there’s no rush, it’s just something you’d like to accomplish by the end of the year like taking a day trip, reading more books, finding a more suitable job, or getting better at communicating at work or home. However, note that Gemini is a very fickle sign (being of ‘two minds’ as it were), so thoughtfully consider this intention. No one wants to realize in December that what they asked for they really didn’t want at all.
Suggested Beginner Tarot Spread: 2 Cards
Card #1: What will help me realize my intentions during this six month Lunar cycle?
Card #2: What will hinder my intentions during this six month Lunar cycle?
Gemini is all about twins, so a two card spread seems almost mandatory, you can do this two card spread by pulling the two cards out of the deck like normal, or you can split the deck and look at the cards on each side. I do use reversed readings when asking about what will hinder progress, so you can choose to read the card reversed or upright, which ever you feel most comfortable with.
Suggested Intermediate Tarot Spread: 2 Cards
Card #1: What can I do to get the most out of Gemini’s communicative energy during this six month Lunar cycle?
Card #2: What actions should I take in order to bring my intention (or state your intention here) to fruition during this six month Lunar cycle?
With your intentions set and advice in mind, now you can go into the New Moon cycle and put your intentions to work with actions! The Full Moon on June 9th 2017 is a good time to check in and review your notes, then in December 2017 we’ll meet again to see how we’ve done. It’s pretty much impossible to remember something like a six month old intention, our lives are just so busy, so remember to write it all down. I think you’ll find that checking in with yourself in six month is surprisingly rewarding.
I hope you all found this guide helpful, I’ll be back at the next New Moon and we can go through the steps together again. Please feel to share any (positive/constructive) thoughts that you have in the comments. Have a beautiful lunar cycle my friends!
